At Main Street Bank, we’ve been listening to what matters most to you. Starting March 5, 2026, we’re updating your Neighborhood Rewards Checking account to Neighborhood Checking, making it easier to qualify and giving you more of the benefits you value most.
What’s Changing?
It’s easier to qualify:
- Set up Direct Deposit of at least $500 per month from an external source, like payroll or social security, OR e-Statements, AND
- Make 10+ debit card purchases each month (in-store, online, or other point-of-sale transactions)
New and changed benefits for you:
- $5 Monthly credit will no longer be offered
- ATM fee refunds each month will be increased: $15 → $20 per month
- New benefit added: Get one free box of basic style checks per year
- Your Account Remains Free: No minimum balance or maintenance fees, even if you don’t qualify for benefits in a given month.
No action is required on your part. Your account number and all other information will remain the same.

1. Why are you taking away the $5 monthly credit?
We’ve focused on benefits customers told us matter most, like more ATM fee refunds and convenience features. Increasing ATM refunds from $15 to $20 gives you more flexibility to withdraw from any ATM each month.. Plus, we’ve added the option to get free checks each year, to cover you in those moments when you need to write a check.
2. Do I have to use my debit card?
Yes, to qualify for extra benefits in this account, you’ll need to make at least 10 debit card purchases per month. This includes in-store, online, or other point-of-sale transactions.
3. Will I be charged fees if I don’t qualify?
No. Your account remains free with no minimum balance or maintenance fees. You’ll simply miss out on the extra benefits for that month.
4. How do I order my free box of checks?
Starting on the effective date, you can request your free box of checks by contacting your local branch or calling us at 508-481-8300.
5. What if I prefer paper statements?
That’s okay! You can still qualify by setting up Direct Deposit of at least $500 per month from an external source, like payroll or social security, instead of e-Statements. You only need one of these options.
